Set up a Social Event

Many people have found the DBSA to be a good place to extend their social circle. Feel free to use this page to set up a get together: Coffee out, walk in the park, etc. Feel free to use the comments section of this page to set up your get together.

Remember that the DBSA can’t vouch for everyone who comes to our meetings, so use common sense in arranging social meetings… and our standard caviat that “all we offer each other is support from our personal perspective, not medical advice, so be sure to consult your medical professionals for answers to any of your medical questions.”

With all that said… List your date, time, place and general plan… and If you want to join the festivities be sure to mention that you are planning to be there.

Has anyone ever written on here? Where can I find past info on potential meetups?

2. dbsagreaterseattle - August 18, 2007

Hi Teresa… This is something new we’re trying. It’s never been done “formally” by our group before. I’ve been a part of informal “meetups” before… where we agreed on a place and time (for example, the bakery at the north end of Greenlake at 4pm) and we just recognized each other from the group.

If you’d like to get together with people, just lay it out, and see if anyone joins you (I’d recommend bringing a good book, just in case it doesn’t work out for some reason.) -D

3. Nikki McDonell - May 8, 2008

Hello all! I am brand new on here. Here’s my story. I am a single mom of a toddler with Bi-polar, ADHD, Anxiety, PTSD and prolly some other fun tidbits. I recently took a little “vacation” in Fairfax due to a nervous breakdown of trying to juggle life. I have taken a leave of absence from work for some healing. I would love to have a get together anytime tomorrow with some like souls for support and maybe network on some other meetings, etc some have found helpful. I do not have a car and live in Ballard. Was thinking the Starbucks on Market and 22nd would be a good place to meet, maybe late morning or early afternoon to work around their coffee rush. Let’s say 4pm to accomodate those who work and wanna try and and make it. Feel free to contact me directly at kdraven1031@yahoo.com, as I check that frequently from my cell. Please put DBSA in the subject so I do not just delete it. Thanks!
Nikki

Hi Nikki! welcome!

So far this idea hasn’t taken off. Perhaps introducing yourself at the meetings and then planning the events through here.. I dunno. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Perhaps it will pick up eventually.

6. Ken - June 11, 2008

We actually did try this at one time, years ago, when I was active in the group. We planned an event well in advance and publicized it at the group meetings. People seemed interested but when the time came only two of us showed up.

7. dbsagreaterseattle - September 7, 2008

Hi Ken! Good to hear from you!

Its gonna be slow going. Kind of the nature of who our group is. But, worth it I think. Two people, that’s kinda good to my thinking.

The facilitator training gave Gorm and I some ideas on how to encourage cross sharing. We’ll be trying to implement them soon.

8. Danielle Cannon - October 4, 2008

Hello, my name is Danielle and I am a 30 year old living in Everett. I have been battling with Bipolar 2 Disorder. I first became aware of my sickness a little over five years ago and am still struggling to find the right therapy to help (both meds and talk). I understand that this is probably going to be a life long challenge for me that will need adjusting every few years. I would love to have the opportunity to reach out to some one suffering/struggling with this illness. I find that freinds and family, no matter how educated on the subject they are, still cannot grasp the day to day struggles that I have. I need to connect with people who truly understand, who can help share their experences, what works, what doesn’t. How to cope, how to recognize which side of the pole you are on, and how to function in everyday life. If people are willing to meet up please include me in your invite, i am desperately trying to reach out….

9. Mile - November 9, 2008

I’m really in need of working with a bipolar support group. Recently, I’ve come to grips that just taking meds will not mitigate Bipolar. There is an thinking element as well, how to recognize the signs before an episode gets out of control.
I need help with all of this.

11. Dawn - November 19, 2008

I am interested in meeting with other people with depression in either the Lynnwood or Everett area. If you are interested please feel free to contact me @ ddhesler@comcast.net. Thanks!

12. Laura - November 30, 2008

Hello! I just happened upon this website, and it looks like it’s been awhile since anyone has posted. Are there any regular meetings? I am a bit confused by the website.

I have been trying to get through my anxiety and depression, but find it so hard to do alone. I find strength and hope in supporting others in their struggle, and would really like to meet up with a group soon. Can someone please fill me in on how to meet up?

13. Laura - November 30, 2008

Haha, ok just saw the posts about meetings. I will check them out.

But I live in the U-District and can bus around Seattle if anyone would like to meet up!

Becka - May 8, 2009

I’m in the udistrict too and just coming to terms with lots of mental turmoil… let me know if you’re still looking for company.

Mary H. - July 21, 2009

I would like to bring our residental house group to a meeting. Can we have one soon! We all have issues that could help empower each other. Please contact soon. I will be waiting.

14. Maria - August 10, 2009

I just wanted to post an opportunity for a research study for children and adolescents with bipolar disorder. If you are interested you can contact me at gethelpnow@etresource.com Also, if you would like to attend a group on clinical trial resources, let me know that as well.

Best,

Maria

15. Renee - March 19, 2010

I don’t think I’ll be making a meeting anytime soon, I live in Federal Way and have limited access to a vehicle, but I’m glad to know that the option’s out there. I’ve been living with depression since my early teens and it’s absolutely exhausting, barely keeping your head above water with no one to turn to. If anyone travels from my neck of the woods let me know.

Raney - July 31, 2010

I don’t have a car either. I used to go to this group 2 years ago. It helps to have some people who are struggling with the same things. I have had moderate depression since childhood also. If you ever make it up my way, Bellevue and Carnation, I’d be willing to go out for a movie or just walk around the park with you.
